Ziraldo may be the only writer in the world to enjoy the honor of having his titles compared to the moon by Neil Armstrong himself, the first astronaut to walk on this satellite. He said: “The moon is Flicks”. Multivalent, this children’s book writer has a long way as a graphic artist, a comedian, an illustrator, a cartoonist, a caricaturist, a playwright, and a journalist. He was the first one to create comics in Brazil, gathering all the animals from the national folklore, a little Indian and Saci-Pererê (Saci is undoubtedly the most popular and bizarre character of Brazilian folklore. He is a one-legged dwarf, with holes through the palms of his hands, who smokes a pipe and wears a magical red cap which enables him to disappear and reappear wherever he wishes.). Saci, being the most popular myth in the country, provided the title of the publication. Ziraldo’s complete acclamation came with the release of “Menino Maluquinho” (Crazy Boy), it was read and admired by millions of children from several generations who even had the privilege and joy of watching two versions of “Menino Maluquinho” that was made into movies. During military dictatorship, Ziraldo took part in the resistance politics. Ziraldo and other comedians founded the most important non-conformist newspaper for the Brazilian newspapers, “The Pasquin”
